Our essential service client is NZ's leader in waste, recycling and resource recovery. We are now seeking a National Trading Manager to maximise the value of their materials, globally, across their organisation.

This position is responsible for maximising the companies return on their portfolio of commodity recyclables, taking charge of education (amongst sales and operational teams, in conjunction with managers) on best practice of commodity management, in addition to new business opportunities within trading markets nationally and Internationally. The role has a roughly 50/50 focus split between domestic and international markets (mainly across Asia). Some travel will be required, but not a significant amount.

**A bit about the role**:

- Manage commodity trading desk including strategies, contracts and relationships with domestic and international trading customers. Maximise commodity return through focus on the key variables of price, quality, COG’s and risk.
- Manage the resource recovery trading desk logistics function including relationships with key service providers.
- Negotiate transport rates in conjunction with the Procurement Managers.
- Conduct market development, identification of business development and third party trading opportunities.
- Support the import and export activities of other related businesses.
- Participate in new recycling business development opportunities
- Develop relationships and lobby with key external influencers.
- Provide membership and representation on trade organisations.
- Generate and supply reporting on commodity pricing and provide risk management advise to General Manager to support maximising resource recovery trading profitability.
- Development of wider strategy initiatives in conjunction with new ventures manager to maximise NZ centric demand to expand opportunities within market
- Manage annual RFP process, in partnership with procurement.
- Educate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the maximisation of the value through the sales of commodities.

**A bit about you**:

- Ideally, you'll have commodity trading experience, across both domestic and international markets; ideally you have strong experience trading commodities in Asia.
- At minimum you will have solid experience in commodity trading OR strong recyclable material & end market expertise combined with outstanding commercial acumen, negotiation and strategic skill sets (coupled with a desire to get into a Trading position).
- Strong commercial acumen, leadership, interpersonal skills, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Strong financial and management accountancy skills.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, motivate and mentor teams. This role has two direct reports.
- Ability to work autonomously; desire to enjoy a laugh when together with the team
