Kōrero mō te tūranga ' About the role
Our organisation is moving towards being more Te Tiriti focused and responsive to the health and wellbeing needs of Maori. This role is an important part in that development connecting opportunity and actions for change across community, policy and legislative functions to improve outcomes for Maori and others with poorer health outcomes. The role will support community and in particular Maori to champion change. The role is based in the Wairarapa with opportunity to connect with our other bases in Lower Hutt and Porirua.
The role has a strong legislative focus and understanding the impact of these controls on community and the changes needed to minimise harm are the types of public health considerations you will consider each day in your work.
These are some of the key things you will do in the role
- Educate tobacco and vaping retailers so they know what is required by law and are compliant with the law
- Work alongside community stakeholders to raise awareness of alcohol, tobacco and drug harm and develop programmes with them to reduce that harm
- Ensure decision makers have appropriate information to consider when making decisions ' eg. we work with local councils and contribute information to their policy makingMō tō mātou rōpū ' About our team

Our work is varied and dependent on community needs. We work with many stakeholders across health, all of Government, NGO, community sectors, businesses and retailers to promote healthy living environments, policy and legislation.
The Team has distinct important roles. These include regulation, licensing, health promotion and policy development across the wider Wellington region covering the Kapiti Coast, Porirua, Wellington, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and the Wairarapa.
We value strong cultural connections and knowledge of community. Working alongside and collaborating with others is critical to the work we do. A passion for public health, understanding how change happens and the tools needed to do that are something we share amongst the team, organisation and with the wider community.

We are seeking a confident relationship developer. If you have excellent spoken and communication skills and is someone who is able to interpret legislation and see the opportunities to influence and make change we want to hear from you. Experience in facilitation, presentation, writing skills and project management will support you well in the role. We are looking for a strong team player who is agile and adaptable.
