**He angitutanga | About the role**

We are seeking a dedicated Technical Advisor to support our Marine Ecosystems team. This role is crucial for advancing the team's broader marine biodiversity objectives and implementing effective management interventions.

In this position, you will assist with marine research and biodiversity monitoring, helping to bridge knowledge gaps across the Department of Conservation (DOC). Your contributions will support initiatives such as the Revitalisation of the Gulf and monitoring and reporting for New Zealand's marine reserves.

You will collaborate with internal teams to ensure that DOC's conservation strategies are informed by the latest scientific insights and best available information. Your ability to translate complex scientific and technical information into accessible language will be essential for fostering understanding and engagement among diverse audiences.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Coordinate and support the development and dissemination of clear, well-reasoned advice on marine ecosystems and resource management on behalf of the team.
- Organise and analyse field data and prepare high quality reports.
- Support the development of resources that assist DOC staff in their conservation efforts.

Ideally this role will be based in Conservation House, Wellington, though other locations will be considered for the right person.

**Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and Experience**

Ideally, you will have an undergraduate degree in biological science or equivalent experience in biodiversity conservation, along with relevant work experience, preferably in central or local government.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as you will need to convey complex information clearly to various stakeholders. Experience with field data collection, data review, and preparation of technical documents will be an advantage. Strong interpersonal skills will help you build and maintain effective relationships, while your proactive problem-solving abilities will enable you to address challenges efficiently.

A postgraduate qualification in marine science is a plus, but your enthusiasm for marine conservation and commitment to making a difference is what truly matters.

The salary range for this position is $79,656 to $100,639 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
