Based in Pōneke, Wellington this role offers great variety to your day, where you could be working on internal or external communications plans, supporting the Manager, Strategy by leading and mentoring this small, energetic team and delivering our messaging including writing speeches for our Chief Executive and Minister. Te Puni Kōkiri is the government's principal policy advisor on Māori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with Māori. This includes our mandate to promote Māori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles. **Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity** A core focus of the Team Leader is to manage and guide a small team of communications professionals and prioritise communications efforts in line with Te Puni Kōkiri and Minister priorities. They will take a business partnering, manaakitanga approach to their mahi. This is a broad and varied position that focuses on - ** Leadership.**Act as the "go to" between business partner and specialist skills within the team. Support the Manager in actively training Senior Advisors and Advisors. - ** Ministerial Support.**Lead the provision of high quality and timely speech writing services to the Minister and provide talking points for Ministers briefs. - ** Brand Promotion**. Provide expert advice to the team to ensure high quality communications outputs, both internally and externally. Including effective use of print media, media services and using social media and digital channels appropriately and effectively. - ** Risk Management.**Ensure significant communication risks are brought to the attention of the business partner and Manager in a timely manner. - ** Media and Stakeholder engagement.**Lead and foster our relationships with the media, particularly the Māori media and external stakeholders (including iwi, public and public sector communications leaders) to support achievement of Te Puni Kōkiri kaupapa. The Team Leader, as required will provide advice and expertise to a range of different project based mahi. This includes our upcoming Hūnuku Whare (relocation) and IT systems change projects. **Mōu | About you** This is a broad and varied communications position, with leadership responsibilities and we are looking for someone with the energy, personality, skills and accuracy to match. You should - Have experience in a Team Leader, Communications or similar position and can show significant experience working in the public service. - Keep up with the evolving communications landscape, particularly with the swift advancements in technology and changing procedures. Are committed to continuous learning. - Possess excellent oral and written skills with experience in speech writing, and editorial design and skill. - Proven experience managing complex and multiple relationships to take full advantage of the perspectives and expertise of stakeholders. - Have some experience of working with the Māori media.
