**Mō te tūnga | About the role**
The purpose of Te Tari Pūreke -Firearms Safety Authority is to enable New Zealand to be a world leader in firearms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations. Established to lead, operate, and develop investment in modernisation of the firearms system, which will result in a more efficient and effective risk-based licensing system, introduction of comprehensive performance indicators, and shall improve public confidence in the firearms licensing system. The modernisation of the Arms Regulatory System will take every opportunity to prevent harm through transparent, high quality, consistent, legislatively correct, and effective regulatory activities, administration, education, and promotion of compliance with the provisions of the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.
The Regulator will earn trust and confidence by working together in partnership with other policing groups, iwi, the firearms community, wider New Zealand public and other agencies and organisations to achieve collective impact.
The Senior Partnership Advisor will build and maintain effective relationships with managers, districts, and community leaders nationally, to determine needs and concerns are from a Maori firearms user perspective. Partnering with Māori communities, iwi, hapū and key Māori groups, you will set about building relationships at all levels. As such you will have already demonstrated your mihi within a comparable - complex environment, as you enable and embed a Kaupapa Māori, bi-cultural approach underpinned by te Tiriti obligations.
Cultural competence is key in the role you, and you will need a demonstratable understanding of Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori, a strong ability to operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting and proven understanding of and commitment to, the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. An important part of the role is also the of building trust and confidence between the community and the Arms Regulator working collaboratively, role modelling a commitment to working in partnership with and being responsive to many different ethnic groups across New Zealand.
**Takohanga Matua | Key Accountabilities**:
- Maintain effective working relationships with Partnership Managers and required staff within Districts in order to foster a commitment to delivering on the Regulator’s strategies and initiatives and to establish an effective and consistent approach to engaging with community groups
- Contribute to the development of the Regulator’s strategies and initiatives by developing a
comprehensive understanding of the needs of the various communities within the portfolio for culturally and responsive engagements.
- Working with Partnership Managers, Districts and community leaders to identify and understand current and emerging issues and trends that have implications for how the Regulator responds, and for future strategies, policies and initiatives.
- Coach and mentor staff as required in understanding and dealing with complex cultural issues and responding to Māori, Pacific, or Ethnic and other community issues and needs.
- Championing an approach to service delivery that recognises the needs to be responsive to the unique needs to Māori, Pacific and Ethnic and other communities.
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Past experience working within constructive partnerships, presenting clear and convincing rationale for ideas and changes
- A qualification is preferred, this however may be offset by comparable and extensive skills knowledge and experience in senior level role

**Experience is to include**:
- Proven experience in the supporting the development and leading the implementation of engagement strategies, plans and programme management
- Experience co-designing and delivering innovative programmes and interventions with diverse communities
- Experience gathering information on various community group issues and opportunities and using this to inform policy advice, operational practices and enhance engagement practices, and influence decision making.
**Knowledge**:
- An excellent understanding of and commitment to co-design and delivery.
- A demonstratable understanding of Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori.
- Knowledge, and preferably experience of internal and corporate communications best practices a
