At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally, and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

**About our group and team**

Te Tuarongo Group provide leadership, support, and advice across the Ministry to develop strategy and build capability to address systemic inequity, accelerate excellent outcomes for Māori learners. We prioritise strong relationships and partnerships, underpinned by Mātauranga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

We also support Ministers, the Secretary for Education, and senior leaders to respond to Treaty of Waitangi business and related matters.

The Office of the Deputy Secretary, Te Tuarongo provides business support and strategic leadership to the Hautū, Te Tuarongo. The Office of the Deputy-Secretary supports the Relationships & Mātauranga Māori, Te Tuarongo and Māori Education Teams to lead a cohesive response to the Ministry's priorities to improve outcomes for ākonga Māori and their whanau.

**Mō tēnei tūranga | About the role**

The Senior Business Advisor - Office of the Deputy Secretary provides informed advice and delivery support to the Relationships & Mātauranga Māori team to develop partnerships with Māori and a Te Ao Māori approach to the Ministry's work

The Senior Advisor will advise on other Māori Education Group workstreams, as required, to facilitate an integrated focus on Māori achievement

The Senior Business Advisor - Office of the Deputy Secretary will:

- have a deep understanding of Te Tiriti | Treaty and its implications for the work of the Ministry of Education and other education agencies.
- Implement practices in the Ministry that give life to a Te Tiriti | Treaty partnership and provide advice and leadership in Te Tiriti | Treaty policy, strategy, and work programme implementation.
- Provide leadership, Finance and Business information and advice to the Kaitohu ā Motu, and other Directors, Managers within Te Tuarongo

**Mōhou ake | About you**

You will be experienced in working from a Te Ao Māori perspective to provide informed policy advice on performance and delivery to Senior Leaders, Advisors and Managers. As a Senior Business Advisor - Office of the Deputy Secretary you will have a passion for developing partnerships with Māori and experience bringing a Te Ao Māori approach to influence change in the public sector.

You need to be able to build sustainable relationships and partnerships across the organisation and have established relationships with external providers. A passion for working in a kaupapa Māori and Te Ao Māori environment is essential. You have a strong understanding of Te Reo, Tikanga and Mātauranga Māori.

To be successful in the role you will:

- require a passion for working in a team that prioritises building equity for Māori success as Māori
- understand and support Māori to define success for Māori.
- seek opportunities to practise and build skills of critical reflection, critical planning and critical action in order to challenge and disrupt racism and enable racial equity

- Have excellent communication skills, written and verbal
