Te Tari Pūreke - Firearms Safety Authority is New Zealand’s Firearms Regulator. Our Vision is to ensure the possession and use of firearms in Aotearoa is the safest in the world.
**To achieve this, Te Tari Pūreke delivers four core functions**: effectively implementing the firearms licensing systems; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people to enable compliance with their legislative responsibilities; and promoting the safe possession and lawful use of firearms.
We are committed to fostering a culture of safe and responsible firearms use, gun ownership and awareness by working collaboratively with the firearms community, our stakeholders, and fellow agencies.
About the role
The Senior Partnership Advisor will be an integral part of the Māori Partnerships Group and will develop and deliver the Te Tari Pūreke Cultural Safety & Capability Programme. They will have the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with managers, districts, and community leaders nationally, to determine the needs and concerns from a Māori firearms user perspective.
Partnering with Māori communities, iwi, hapū and key Māori groups, you will set about building relationships at all levels. As such you will have already demonstrated your mihi within a comparable - complex environment, as you enable and embed a Kaupapa Māori, bi-cultural approach underpinned by Te Tiriti obligations.
Cultural competence is key in the role, and you will need a demonstratable understanding of Te Ao Māori and mātauranga Māori, a strong ability to operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting and proven understanding of and commitment to, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
**Key Deliverables**:
Identify and implement practices across the organisation that establish equity for Tangata whenua and uphold our reputation as a good Te Tiriti Partner.
Provide mātauranga Māori advice and support for the organisation, acting as a resource to strengthen local knowledge of tikanga and promote best practices.
Develop and embed cultural practices across the organisation that elevate the mana of Tangata whenua, ensuring alignment with Te Tiriti principles.
Proven experience in delivering cultural capability programs.
Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
Excellent facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and create a supportive learning environment.
Build and maintain relationships, as well as develop networks both internally and externally, to support the objectives of Te Tari Pūreke.
Assist with engagement with iwi/hapū and related entities, aligning with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Foster meaningful involvement of Māori stakeholders in planning and implementation of any relevant strategies.
Contribute to the ongoing success of the Te Tari Pūreke and its reputation for excellence through active participation in organisational initiatives and projects such as Matariki celebrations and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

Special requirements
Past experience working within constructive partnerships, presenting clear and convincing rationale for ideas and changes.
A qualification or experience in the education sector is preferred, this however may be offset by comparable and extensive skills knowledge and experience in senior level role.
A passion for the revitalization of te reo Māori and a desire to improve the opportunities for staff to learn in and through te reo Māori.
This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is “to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business”.
