This role is central to delivering NZ Herald’s industry-leading social media offering and giving voice to our branded accounts on major social networks.

We’re looking for someone who will continue to grow NZ Herald’s impressive audience size and engagement through social channel content and platform strategies that reach new audiences and grow loyal brand fans. You’ll need both creativity and balance to carry the voice of a brand that’s been leading the news for more than 150 years. This means working closely with reporters, section editors, and desks across our Central Auckland newsroom, and around the country.

Fluency in identifying upcoming social trends and platforms will be required with sound judgement in sorting between emerging best practice and a passing fad. You will be charged with building, as well as leading, conversations around our journalism with the credible, conversational voice of a digital expert. You will also be involved in breaking news stories as well as planning long term campaigns and projects. Moderating comments will also form part of your day-to-day responsibilities, with training provided on how to manage this.

This role sits within the social/trending team, which consists of a combination of other social media directors and trending news journalists. If you have experience in a social media role, then we're waiting to hear from you. Experience in a newsroom setting would be advantageous. Some knowledge or experience in Photoshop would be beneficial but not essential.
