**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**
Ngā Pātaka Kōrero o Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland Libraries) play a key role in the community by providing spaces which offer a wide range of resources and are welcoming to all who use them.
This Library and Council Services Assistant role is vital in connecting communities and whanau with services and programmes within the Howick Local Board libraries. Based at Howick Library, a great location for the community to connect, learn and enjoy, we serve a diverse community and take pride in excellence in customer service offering an inclusive and welcoming environment.
The focus areas for this role include:
- Co-producing programmes and events in response to ethnic community needs and identifying service gaps and improvement opportunities
- Supporting diverse community needs, engaging under-served parts of local ethnic and migrant communities to increasing participation and use of the library
- The ability to speak and read a second language, specifically Mandarin language skills would be highly advantageous as this role manages our Library’s Mandarin book and periodical collection
- Working collaboratively with teams in the Howick Local Board sharing skills, knowledge and expertise.
- Providing exceptional customer service, including supporting customers to use a wide range of library and non-library resources, navigating literacy and social vulnerability issues. Promoting Council and community group opportunities and offerings.
- Keeping up to date with current technology to support customers with access to resources in all formats
**He kōrero mōu: About you**
You will have a natural ability to relate well to people of all ages and backgrounds, emotional resilience, excellent communication skills, along with strong digital competencies across a wide range of technologies. Readers advisory expertise is essential to foster literacy and community engagement.
An ability to develop your Leadership skills is integral to the role, as you will assist the Community Library Manager with day-to-day operations in the library and undertake in-charge and supervisory responsibilities as required.
You will have previous experience working in libraries and/or bring experience in the delivery of innovative services and programmes.

This is a permanent opportunity working 38 hours per week working Sunday to Thursday. Our library is open seven days a week so flexibility around working hours including late nights is required.
