Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
Te Pātuitanga Ahumoana a Kiwa (Te Pātui) is a programme delivered by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), which aims to strengthen the capacity of Pacific Island fisheries administrations to manage their fisheries.
You will provide leadership and management to all staff within Te Pātui by ensuring that robust processes for health and safety, performance management, learning and development are effectively implemented. The Team Leader will manage six (6) direct reports - three (3) Fisheries Management Advisors and three (3) Fisheries Compliance Advisers. You will help this team to strengthen the capacity of Pacific Island fisheries administrations to manage their fisheries. This is a unique opportunity to support economic, social and environmental outcomes in the Pacific.
You will feed into strategic meetings including with MFAT and other key Pacific partners, and coordinate and facilitate operational meetings with MPI managers, Te Pātui advisors and the MFAT Contracts Manager.
**To deliver the core duties, you will**:

- Build and maintain relationships with both your team and stakeholders
- Integrate outcomes, objectives, and management strategy across the programme
- Oversee the development and implementation of operational plans, processes and systems

Mōu - About You
You will be working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, based in a variety of Pacific Island countries. To flourish in this role, you'll have excellent communication skills as well as the ability to understand the cultural context in which you'll be working. You'll have a combination of technical skills, and cultural awareness.
This is a complex, challenging, and rewarding role requiring a unique mix of skills. To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

- Experience leading teams and/or significant projects, along with managing associated health and safety risks.
- A can do attitude with attention to detail and a strong focus on successful delivery of projects and programmes of work
- Significant experience in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with people at all levels in an organisation, both internally and externally.
- Understanding of, and experience operating in, Government processes, including Parliamentary processes

A relevant tertiary qualification in economics, law, fisheries, biological sciences, or resource management would be beneficial.
You're not expected to have all of these skills. But, if you have most of these things, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Team
You'll be well supported as a team leader, reporting to the Manager Highly Migratory & Pacific. Key stakeholders include other inter-governmental agencies in the Pacific such as SPC (Pacific Community) and the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA).
