The Hocken is one of the foremost research libraries in New Zealand celebrating the histories, cultures and natural environments of Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific.

We currently have an entry-level opportunity as a Collections Assistant suitable for those who share our passion for supporting research focused on Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific and wish to contribute to the enhanced delivery of our services and collections.

**_The role/Te mahi_**

As a Collections Assistant, you will work primarily in the Hocken Publications section and contribute to the provision of a responsive, friendly and professional service to users across the collections.

Key tasks of the role include:

- Maintaining day to day care and maintenance of the serials and newspaper collections.
- Providing researcher services on site.
- Issuing and overseeing the use of materials from the collections.
- Assisting with collection development and management, including preventive conservation of the Publications Collections.
- Administrative support, as required.

**_Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- Excellent general knowledge of New Zealand and Pacific history, geography, and culture.
- Experience providing research services in a library, archive, or related institution such as a museum or gallery.
- Familiarity with library and/or archive management systems, databases, and Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori.
- A strong customer service ethic, teamed with excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent time management skills and an ability to meet deadlines.
- An ability to work with accuracy at all times.
- An approachable, flexible and adaptable attitude.
- The ability to work well as part of a diverse team, and also undertake quality work without direct supervision.
