The Hocken Collection is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading research libraries with documentary heritage collections of national significance. We support the teaching, learning, and research needs of academics and students from the University of Otago, Otago Polytechnic as well as other academic, professional, and independent researchers who value the diverse nature and accessibility of our collections.

**_The role/Te mahi_**

The Head Curator Published and Special Collections is responsible for the expert management, development and care of Hocken Published collections and the University of Otago Library’s Special Collections. In this role you will lead and manage a team of curators and collection assistants, delivering engagement, research, education and access outcomes.

The role contributes to the development and implementation of collection development and management policies and strategies, and the coordination of services provided through other parts of the University Library particularly through Information Resources and the Bindery. The Head Curator Published and Special Collections also has a Hocken-wide responsibility for coordinating preservation and conservation policies and programmes, including disaster recovery and business continuity processes.

**_Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- Relevant undergraduate degree, postgraduate qualification in Library, Archives or Heritage studies; or equivalent knowledge rained through a combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Experience in leading and managing others with the ability to lead effectively in a changing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in the development, management, description, preservation and accessibility of cultural heritage collections.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mātauranga Māori as it applies to cultural heritage collections and their significance as taonga and importance to iwi Māori.

Working knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori are important for this role. You will also need to be an excellent communicator and problem solver, committed to excellence and professionalism.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours), permanent position reporting to the Hocken Librarian. You will work standard business hours, though you will need to be available for weekend talks, evening events and projects as required from time to time.
