**About us**:
We want more good people to come and do great things with us.
We love where we live. That’s why we work so hard to look after our region and the people who live and work in the Waikato region.
Customers sit at the heart of everything we do, and all staff have an important role to play in the delivery of exceptional customer service.
Our work is as diverse as the region we care for; from the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula to the slopes of Ruapehu. We’ve got ambitious goals and there are some tricky issues, but that’s what makes it so interesting.
Looking for flexible ways of working options, at Waikato Regional Council we are committed to working more creatively to ‘get work done’ in a way that is of mutual benefit to you, the organisation and our communities.
**About you**:
If you’re driven, well planned and experienced in leading communications for significant programmes of work, keep reading
As a senior practitioner, you’re comfortable in agile working environments and able to work autonomously. You are a natural strategic thinker with excellent relationship management skills.
It’s a given that you’ll know how to capitalise on the communications tools and techniques to achieve the best reach, cut through and delivery of consistent messages in print and online. You have a track record of delivering successful multi-channel campaigns. Managing media is in your repertoire too.
**Qualifications**:
- Degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field.
**Experience**:
- Minimum 6 years’ relevant experience within a complex environment.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Expertise in managing media relationships, and issues of reputational risk.
- Exceptional political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues (including bi-cultural sensitivity).
**About the role**:
In this role you’ll be part of an in-house Communications and Marketing section, which includes design, digital channels and social media.
Key to your success in this role will not only be ensuring that communications and engagement plans are in place for our significant programmes of work, but that they are joined-up and aligned with the work of the wider organisation.
Using your storytelling skills, you’ll develop engaging content for print and digital that ensures complex issues are communicated simply and clearly, and the great mahi we’re doing is heard loud and clear across the region. This will include committee attendance, as required, to identify stories as well as potential issues that need front-footing with media.
