The Senior Trading Manager is an exciting opportunity to lead a cross-functional team, responsible for translating the TheMarket’s trade plan into a detailed calendar, ensuring we achieve our commercial and customer acquisition goals
**Job Description**:
This operational leadership position (circa 2 direct reports - and will likely scale as the business evolves) covers a broad set of responsibilities required to deliver the role objective and goals Work with, and influence teams across Commercial, Category Management, Campaigns and Account Management to deliver this.
The primary goal is to achieve our GMV targets in a way which is sustainable, customer-first and is equitable across our merchant base.
**Key areas of Responsibilities**:
Team - hire and develop a market-leading team of trading managers and planners. Develop strong performance culture within team. Estimated team size is approx. 2 FTE and will likely scale as the business evolves.
**Commercial market strategy**
- Working closely with the Planning, Category and Marketing teams, consolidate and develop the detailed trade plan for TheMarket
- Ensures the trade plan delivers to our commercial strategy and objectives
- Review and mobilise opportunities with Group brands for the betterment of customer and commercial outcomes.
- Influences key stakeholders through compelling insights and effective presentation of results
**Cross Functional Leadership**
- Demonstrates exceptional cross-functional leadership and influencing skills with strong collaborative practices and processes across functional team
- Leads the trade steering group and ensures actions are executed
**Planning and budgeting**
- Whilst marketing will set the overall budgets, the Senior Trading Manager will mobilise plans to achieve these targets across all core business verticals
- Develops the customer and commercial needs and develops this with the functional leads into a coherent overall season and year plan
- Provides the bottom-up perspective in the financial planning and budgeting phase
**Trading**
- Builds and maintains the trade calendar; reflecting customer needs & trade budgets into a clear plan that feeds CLM, Campaigns, Merchant Experience, Category Management to achieve or exceed quarterly and annual targets
- Supports cross-platform opportunities with Group marketplace
- Leads the weekly trade meeting and ensures the steering group focuses on high-value activity
- Drives in-season optimisation and ad-hoc actions if needed to achieve targets, especially focused on setting and managing monthly and seasonal budgets to achieve the growth plans for the market
- Provides specific perspective and input on major in-season adjustments and potential impact on targets
- Monitors and benchmarks the performance across customer touch points and jointly identify opportunities for further improvement in short-term and mid-term
**Campaigns**
- Co-ordinates and schedules MarketClub campaigns across TheMarket & Group brands.
- Brief the campaigns team on BAU activity, fuelled by the trading calendar
- Ensure the campaign brief is executed with impact across channels; allowing for real-time optimisation where required
- Execute testing across campaigns to improve key performance metrics
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support execution of trading events
**Data, Insights & Reporting**
- Develop data-driven trading strategies which are consistently measured
- Review performance daily, acting in real-time as required to optimise the offer, guiding the Category, CLM, Merch experience and Campaigns team on what’s required to deliver to target
- Empower the team to work with our vast datasets to determine audience insights and develop campaigns that deliver competitive advantage
- Foster a culture of insight-driven planning and decision making

- Demonstrable trading acumen, with proven results.
- Strategic commercial thinking; the ability to translate customer needs and commercial opportunities to a sound trade plan that yields short and long-term results
- Proven ability to drive operational execution; a hands-on commercial operator
- Experience in inspiring direct and non-direct reports to achieve a goal
- Strong analytical and conceptual skillset
