**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

As our Manager **Student Conduct & Investigations**, you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe, inclusive and equitable environment at the University of Auckland by bringing about timely and effective resolutions of non-academic student conduct and discipline matters.

You will lead investigations relating to student conduct and discipline and work in collaboration with student support services to ensure the wellbeing and safety of students involved in a discipline process. You will prepare investigation reports for discussion with the Proctors and make recommendations on the resolution of conduct and discipline matters.

At times this work includes the investigation of complex and highly sensitive issues (including cases of sexual harm), often at times of crisis and where urgency is required. Paramount to the effectiveness of this service is the ability to conducting yourself in a manner that safeguards the wellbeing and safety of all parties involved.

**Your responsibilities will involve**:

- Reviewing, advising on and managing student non-academic misconduct and complaints in alignment with our policies, procedures and statutes. This includes providing appropriate judgements and recommendations on cases.
- Conducting student misconduct investigations, preparing investigation reports and recommendations for the Proctors as well as documentation for disciplinary processes.
- Collaborating with student support services to ensure the wellbeing and safety of students.
- Making and implementing recommendations on whether disciplinary action is appropriate in the light of the Code of Conduct, the Statute for Student Discipline and other University policy and rules.
- Keeping relevant staff, students, and other parties informed of case progress (ensuring privacy is maintained) and communicating outcomes of cases to relevant parties.
- Providing education and support to staff and student groups regarding formal behavioural complaints under the Discipline statute.

Campus Life is a Service Division that supports an engaging and inclusive campus experience for students at The University of Auckland.

You will have responsibility for your area of expertise and will not have any direct reports initially. With that said, you will be supported and guided as you settle in with us, as you will be working with a wider team within the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Division of Campus Life.

You will be supported by and reporting to our Associate Director, and during your first few months with us you will be working through a handover and guided by our Manager of Student Conduct & Care whose role is shifting towards a greater focus on care.

**He kōrero mōu | About you**

To be considered for this role you will need to have experience of investigating, mediating, and/or processing complex complaints between parties which will usually involve harmful behaviour and potentially traumatic incidents. It will be your role to react quickly, investigate, support, and make recommendations on outcomes which will be decided upon by senior committees and governing bodies.

Your previous job titles could include, but are not limited to Principal Investigator, Legal Counsel, Complaints Manager, Conflict Resolution Manager, Claims Consultant, Mediator, Manager Student Interest and Conflict Resolution or Grievance and Academic Processes Advisor.

**We are seeking a person able to demonstrate**:

- Degree-level qualifications in law, human resources, psychology (forensic) or other relevant qualifications.
- 5+ years cumulative experience in a comparable role, for example, in a legal setting, an advocacy service or an employment relations role.
- 2 + years experience at providing expert advice.
- Experience managing sensitive and complex cases and utilising tact, diplomacy, impartiality, discretion and empathy.
- Involvement of working in discipline or regulatory matters, investigations and complaints.
- Experience working in a complex, multi-stakeholder and multi-cultural environment.
