- **What is the role?**
- The role is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of StraitNZ Bluebridge Ltd vessels through leadership in maritime safety, crew management, and regulatory compliance. As the Designated Person Ashore (DPA), the role provides critical oversight of the Safety Management System (SMS), risk management, and emergency preparedness. The position plays a key part in fostering a strong safety culture and supporting the professional development of deck officers.
**What are the responsibilities?**
- Promote and work within the StraitNZ strategic pillars and values.
- Promote and work within StraitNZ policies.
- Designated Person Ashore (DPA) for StraitNZ Bluebridge Ltd under the ISM code.
- Undertake DPA inspections on board company vessels.
- Deputy Security Officer for StraitNZ Bluebridge Ltd.
- Lead or support incident investigations as required.
- Responsible for on board safety and emergency response preparedness training and development for all crew.
- Responsible for management and development of the StraitNZ Bluebridge Ltd Safety Management System (SMS).
- Maintain company risk registers.
- Identify and manage new risks and undertake risk assessments.
- Work closely with the Bluebridge Senior HSR & ESG Manager on wider Bluebridge safety related risks and initiatives. The Senior HSR & ESG Manager reports directly to the SNZ Group GM HSR & ESG and secondary (dotted line) reporting to the DPA.
- Manage performance and coaching of deck officers, actively promoting Human Factors principles for safe and efficient teamwork.
- Lead deck officer performance and disciplinary processes.
- Ensure the vessels deck officer teams are configured in accordance with the Minimum Safe Crewing Documentation, taking into account operational, watchkeeping and workload requirements.
- Maintain oversight for validity of deck officer certification.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports to the GM Marine Manager Marine Operations.
- Relieve the Marine Manager as required.
- Comply with StraitNZ Bluebridge Limited’s Health & Safety policy and guidelines and take all practicable steps to ensure their own safety and the safety of others in the workplace in line with the Health & Safety at Work act 2015.
