Drowning Prevention Auckland (DPA) is seeking an experienced and skilled educator to join their team in a full-time, permanent capacity. This role is pivotal for supporting the implementation of teacher-led aquatic education in schools.
DPA was formed with a vision of Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland being free from drowning, which they aim to achieve through improving water competency through education. The position will support the delivery of drowning prevention education across the education sector (ECE, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary) to improve student’s/participant’s/teacher’s knowledge, competence and approach to water safety, resulting in safer enjoyment in, on and around the water.
**Job Description**:
The ideal person for this role is someone who has a passion for water safety and education. The key accountabilities for this role are focused on:
- Promoting and providing drowning prevention education across school programmes
- Providing PLD for teachers in schools to enable the implementation of aquatic education
- Developing and maintaining strong networks with our clients and with other organisations that support drowning prevention education
- Undertaking and implementing programme design/delivery evaluations and improvements (based on research and evaluation-informed methods)
- Acting with cultural awareness and competence at all times - ensuring that relationships are built and maintained across different culturesAre you the person that we are looking for? In addition to undertaking the above, you will have water experience and competence and NZ Teacher Registration; you will hold a current workplace first-aid certificate and a full NZ Drivers’ Licence & double vaccination (for COVID-19). You will have exceptional competency and commitment to cultural awareness and be able to demonstrate an understanding of New Zealand’s water safety sector. You may also need to be available to travel out of Auckland for any occasional regional/national programme.
**Qualifications**:
Ideally, you will also have:
- A current Practising Certificate (Teaching Council Aotearoa New Zealand) or Adult Teaching Certification Level 3 or 4 and/or experience
- NZC in Aquatics (L3) Swim and Water Safety Teacher
- Qualifications and/or experience in health and safety, and risk assessment and management
- Other recent personal and professional development and training, e.g., teaching and learning, educational leadership, sport/recreation, community service, health and safety, injury prevention, cultural competency
