Technical Service Manager

As a Technical Service manager, you will report to General Manager, provide provision of product development, new color support and customer/operations technical service for the New Zealand Industrial business. **Key Responsibilities** - Manage all technical aspects of New Zealand Industrial laboratory IP management, confidentiality agreements, negotiation on development agreements with customers and suppliers. This involves acting as the prime contact on third party negotiations on these matters supported by PPG Legal. - Work with manager of other departments to establish an agreed plan of action with achieving the strategy. - Contribute to the Financial Budget setting for PPG New Zealand Technical requirements. - Manage a portfolio of projects, priorities work and align resources to meet the agreed plan. - Create value through value creation programmes, including formula cost reduction and complexity reduction plans. - Monitors competitors’ products and their quality. - Replicates and uses technical successes elsewhere to deliver speed to grow. - Uses appropriate interpersonal styles to gain acceptance of ideas and plans. - Modifies interpersonal styles to accomplish tasks and goals. - Uses a wide range of information sources, e.g. suppliers, internal expertise and peer group network in seeking best solutions. Stays up to date with latest formulation technologies and practices. - Coaches, guides and provides ongoing feedback to facilitate development of your team. **Qualifications** **Experience**: - Graduate with Honours Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline. - 8+ years’ work experience in a technical role at a relevant company within the chemical or coatings industry. - Experience working with other departments, managing people and leading teams. **Knowledge**: - Best practice in formulation science along with a deep understanding of paint manufacturing and production processes. - Detailed knowledge of raw material suppliers and their technologies. - Connected with a detailed knowledge of both applicators and end-users. - Good commercial awareness including, branding, finance, channels to market etc. - Experience with business processes in other functions especially Sales/Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain. - Detailed knowledge of EHS, Product Stewardship and regulatory processes/compliance. **About us**: **PPG: WE PROTECT AND BEAUTIFY THE WORLD** **The PPG Way** Every single day at PPG: **We partner with customers to create mutual value.** We are insightful, dedicated and proactive.
