Deputy Chief Executive - Review and Improvement Services
Education Review Office (ERO)
The opportunity
We are calling for Expressions of Interest for a secondment to the role of Deputy Chief Executive - Review and Improvement Services (DCE-RIS) for a 12-month secondment while the incumbent is on secondment at Te Kawa Mataaho / Public Service Commission.
We are seeking an experienced operational person to lead a professional and geographically distributed team. You will be a trusted senior leader with sound experience in building high-performing teams who can literally come into the role and hit the ground running.
What's in it for you?
What the role offers is the opportunity to manage relationships with complex sets of stakeholders including sector peak bodies, iwi and Māori. There is also the chance to embed recently implemented changes to both the structure, systems and processes to effectively deliver the group's work programme. The DCE-RIS also makes a significant contribution to the leadership of ERO.
What we are seeking
While experience of the education sector and evaluation would be an advantage it is not essential. The key thing will be the ability to ask robust questions to find the necessary information for evidence-based decision making.
More about ERO
ERO is accountable for evaluating and reporting on the pre-tertiary education and care of students in schools and early childhood services. Our driving force is a belief that a quality education is the right of every child and young person in Aotearoa New Zealand on their educational pathway, from early childhood learning until they leave school. ERO lives by its Whakataukī: Ko te Tamaiti te Pūtake o te Kaupapa, The Child — the Heart of the Matter. Our reports are used by parents, teachers, early childhood education managers, school principals and trustees, and by government policy makers.
Review and Improvement Services
RIS delivers a programme of evaluations, reviews, inquiries and investigations into the quality of schools and early learning services across New Zealand. RIS also gathers data and intelligence to support national evaluation insights and enhancements to the system. RIS has approximately 140 staff in six offices across the motu with some people working from home.
Reporting to the DCE are three Directors
- Director (Schools)
- Director (Early Childhood Education)
- Director Systems, Capability and Performance.
Beneath the Directors there are 15 Managers Review and Improvement Services and 120 designated Review Officers.
RIS has just moved from a Regional Structure to a National Structure that supports the three workstreams.
