**1. GENERAL**
The Division of Management offers qualifications at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels

and is one of four Divisions at the University of Waikato. The Division has distinguished itself among

New Zealand business schools by the relevance and rigour of its education and research. It is a

member of an elite group of global business schools that have earned Triple Crown status - an

international acknowledgement of excellence in business education.

**2. POSITION PURPOSE**
Develop a supportive learning environment for Māori students within the Waikato Management

School. Provide strategic advice to the Pro Vice-Chancellor Management, Associate Dean Māori,

Associate Dean Academic and Operations, and Divisional Manager Students with regards to strategy

in relation to Māori initiatives This will be based on the cultural imperatives of whakawhanaungatanga,

manaakitanga, whakawhitiwhakaaro and teina tuakana.

To increase the number of Māori students through marketing and recruitment initiatives targeting

Māori school leavers, mature applicants and graduate students. A further key priority is to improve

retention and achievement rates for Māori.

This role is part of an integrated team which makes consistent decisions, provides timely advice and

assists students to navigate university processes. The Student Engagement Coordinator Māori

supports the wider Division in delivering outstanding customer service and assists in meeting

divisional expectations, including co-ordinating the Māori Mentoring initiative in line with the aims and

objectives of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori office.

**3. ACCOUNTABILITY**

The Māori Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible to the Divisional Manager Students.

**5. KEY TASKS**

**5.1 Māori Student Support**

To work with academic and general staff of the Division of Management in providing a supportive

environment for Māori students in the Division. Tasks include:
the development, coordination and maintenance of new and continuing Māori student success

initiatives which promote participation, engagement and retention including the Division of

Management Māori Mentoring programme.recruiting, training and supervising high achieving senior Māori students to act as Kaiāwhina

for Māori students within the Division in consultation with the Divisional Manager Students and

Associate Dean Māori.working with current Māori students and Division of Management staff to provide for the

welcoming and transitioning of new Māori students to the Division, according to tikanga Māori.the provision of events that enable Māori students to develop both formal and informal student

and staff support networks.develop and lead activities with the Division of Management Māori student club, Te Ranga

Ngaku. This work is carried out in conjunction with the WMS Student Engagement

Coordinator.attendance at Māori Mentor Coordinator and Te Puna Tautoko meeting forums to connect with

other staff and students who support Māori students. This is to ensure consistency of

information, best practise across the university and quality referrals to other services across

campus can be made.identify and promote internal and external opportunities for Māori students of the Division

which may include but is not restricted to; scholarships and internships and liaise with the

relevant services, providers and/or stakeholders.
