Te Kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Spotless NZ, a Downer NZ company, provides a comprehensive range of Facilities Management services to the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) sites, supporting Army and Air Force operations.

We are seeking a Zero Harm business Partner to work with our NZDF Defence team based at Ohakea, who will play a key role in ensuring the safe delivery of facilities services to our customer. Reporting to the Zero Harm Manager - Defence, you will be a proven health and safety leader, with a strong commitment to safe work practices and building a proactive Zero Harm culture.

You will lead our site based HSE activity and support our site teams and subcontractors with solid technical advice, safety planning, monitoring and implementation. Your ability to consult with, and encourage our staff, subcontract partners and customers in providing healthy and safe operating environments is paramount. You will achieve this through identifying, assessing, eliminating, and controlling risks and hazards therefore driving a successful Zero Harm culture across the sites.

Additionally, you will lead HSE investigations, maintain the site Facilities Maintenance Safety Management Plan (FMSMP), audit site HSE systems and processes and lead site safety meetings. You will work alongside the broader HSE team at other Defence sites and champion your site health and safety representatives.

This role is critical to our successful delivery of facilities services at our sites and we are looking for people with a passion for health and safety, an understanding of operational services as well as an ability to work at pace to deliver excellent outcomes.

There is an opportunity, following proven performance, to expand the role into a more regional position.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

You will possess a collaborative and practical approach and be able to build strong relationships with our customer, our site teams, and our subcontractors. You will also bring with you:
Minimum 3 years’ HSE experience in a Contracting environment, construction industry or similar
You will ideally hold a NZ Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 4) or with our support be willing to achieve this qualification.
Good oral presentation skills accompanied by well-developed written and computer skills.
Knowledge of the New Zealand legal framework for HSE including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, Resource Management Act and industry guidelines and standards
Analytical capability, with an ability to provide insights into site HSE performance.
Minimum of Intermediate Microsoft Office suite skills
Current driver’s license
