Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
A vacancy has arisen for a distribution assistant to work within our busy pharmacy department. This is an exciting opportunity for someone wanting to gain experience in a hospital setting, develop new skills and work in a supportive, friendly environment. Whilst the position we have available is a permanent position we would also be keen to hear from those interested in taking this position on a temporary or short-term basis.
The role involves assisting with the control and monitoring of medicines stored in the pharmacy, ensuring stock rotation and the identification of short dated and expired medicines, as well as dealing with routine medication stock enquiries. It also includes entering information onto the pharmacy stock control system, receiving and receipting goods from the suppliers, picking, packing and dispatching medication to clinical areas and housekeeping duties.
This role is key in supporting pharmacy logistics in providing a safe, effective and efficient pharmacy purchasing and distribution services.
Some heavy lifting and computer work is required.

We provide a comprehensive pharmacy service throughout the DHB, which includes a clinical service, dispensary & logistics service, an aseptic production service and a quality & risk service. Through these services, we aim to improve the quality and effectiveness of prescribing, supply and distribution of medicines throughout the district.
Moū - About you
This role is for you if you relish a challenge, have a passion to help others or simply fancy a fresh start.
You must be willing to work hard, be able to manage your own work load as well as meeting the needs of our service users. Physical fitness is required as there is a degree of manual handling involved. You will have good attention to detail and be able to work well under pressure, as these are essential for this role.
You will need good communication skills for liaising with ward staff, pharmacy staff, orderlies, couriers and drivers. You must be able to work accurately and quickly under pressure and be committed to the delivery of high standards in a patient focus
Previous experience of working within a hospital or store keeping environment, along with customer service experience, would be advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided.
