The Ministry for Primary Industries are currently recruiting for a Senior Adviser, Health, Safety, & Wellbeing to join our Strategy, Enablement, and Māori Partnership directorate which forms part of our wider Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service business unit based in Wellington.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
As the Senior Adviser Health, Safety and Wellbeing you will have a unique opportunity to take the lead on various initiatives that support growing the risk management capability of staff in Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service, with a strong focus on taking what are already good safety practices and making them great. With mature health and safety systems in place, you will play a key role in analysing and identifying health and safety data trends, as well as collaborating to embed various programmes of work to ensure safety is ‘just the way we roll'.
In your role you will work alongside other Health, Safety and Wellbeing practitioners within MPI and Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service staff to understand issues and identify barriers that might impact on our ability to improve our safety practices and embed a culture of safety. This partnering will identify opportunities to share insights and solve problems to implement change and improve performance.

**Core responsibilities for the role**:

- Improve health and safety processes and programmes within Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service
- Ensure the health and safety function in Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service is aligned with MPI's health, safety and wellbeing strategic direction.
- Analyse data, identify trends, and risk areas and provide advice.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of the benefits of good safety practices and build on the good work already underway.
- Provide insights on health, safety, and wellbeing to assist with identifying opportunities for improvements and ensure that Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service has a strong Health and Safety Plan.

We're looking for a seasoned Health, Safety and Wellbeing professional who is collaborative by nature, comfortable with systems and processes, and is a great communicator.
Building positive relationships to share expertise, deliver initiatives, improve performance, and bring about change requires a unique mix of skill and the drive for results.

**To be successful in this role, you will offer**:

- Experience in delivering initiatives within the government environment
- Proven experience with continuous improvement
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated experience in identifying and managing risks
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders
- An eagerness to increase knowledge of health, safety, and wellness, and to grow capability
