Te Puni Kōkiri is the government's principal policy advisor on Māori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with Māori. This includes our mandate to promote Māori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles.
We have an exciting Principal Advisor opportunity in our Monitoring and Evaluation team, focused on supporting the implementation of a strengthened monitoring function for Te Puni Kōkiri.
**Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity**
A core focus of the Principal Advisor is to provide thought leadership and provide high quality, evidence-based advice to the Ministry, Ministers and key stakeholders. Confident in their mahi and knowledge, Principal Advisors are key strategic advisors.
- ** Representation.** Speak on behalf of Te Puni Kōkiri to a range of audiences, including General Managers, Deputy Secretaries, Secretary for Māori Development and Ministers.
- ** Thought Leadership.**Build agency and sector credibility by providing timely, accurate advice relating to your specialist knowledge.
- ** Innovation.** Champion innovation and the sharing of knowledge within the team. Create an environment that fosters this.
- ** Stakeholder Relationships.**Connecting across work programmes and teams, and being an active strategic advisor to the Manager, Monitoring & Evaluation.
**Mōu | About you**
An experienced practitioner, you should have the knowledge and skills to deliver and lead complex pieces of work and plan workload. A critical thinker with one eye on the future you may have championed innovation in the past. We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in providing advice and guidance to stakeholders and possesses the core skills outlined in the position description.
- Skilled in influencing and positioning teams to influence senior leadership to put evidence at the heart of decision making.
- Knowledgeable of contemporary continuous quality improvement methodology. Including using qualitative and quantitative data and information to support evidence-informed decision making.
- Forward thinking, agile, and adaptable. Able to anticipate the evolving nature of Māori and non-Māori world views.
- Comfortable working in a te ao Māori environment and situations where tikanga is observed. Competency in teo reo Māori or a willingness to learn.
