Te Puni Kokiri leads policy advice to the Government on M ori development, and Iwi and M ori relations with the Crown. To do this effectively we must position ourselves to elevate our monitoring and mentoring responsibilities and emphasise our role in holding other agencies to account for delivery of public services to, for and with M ori.
Our Governance puni is looking for two experienced Principal Advisors to join the Whakamana/Post Settlement team on a full time, fixed term basis until March 2027, based in National Office, Wellington
**Te Whiwhinga Mahi - The Opportunity**
The Principal Advisor, Whakamana will support Te Puni Kokiris system leadership role in respect of Treaty settlement commitments, contributing to discussions and advice on the post-Treaty settlement relationship. The Principal Advisor, Whakamana will lead, manage and participate in specialist projects focused on enhancing accountability for the Crowns Treaty settlement commitments, and updating guidance for Crown agencies in meeting their Treaty settlement commitments.
The Principal Advisors will establish and sustain strong peer networks across the organisation and foster effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to contribute to Te Puni Kokiris broader work programme for Iwi and M ori Relations with the Crown.
**The full grade for this role is $123,317 - $164,423 with a mid-point of $137,018 (100%). This will be pro-rated for the period of the fixed term.
**Ko wai koe - About you**
- A relevant tertiary qualification and deep understanding of M ori Crown policy perspectives and Treaty settlements.
- Proven experience in policy development and legislative processes, including advising Ministers and Select Committees.
- Exceptional communication skills-both written and oral-to craft compelling papers, speeches, and responses.
- Ability to research, monitor developments, and prepare drafting instructions for legislation.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills to navigate complex issues.
- Knowledge of government structures, monitoring methodologies, and demonstrated leadership in public policy analysis.
