Short term fixed term - to mid-February 2026
- Flexible remuneration and part-time will be considered
- Bring your experience writing for Minister/s and Select Committee
- Your strategic policy thinking increases the outcomes for Māori
Te Puni Kōkiri leads policy advice to the Government on Māori development, and Iwi and Māori relations with the Crown. To do this effectively we must position ourselves to elevate our monitoring and mentoring responsibilities and our responsibility to promote increases in the levels of achievement for Māori.
**Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity**
The Monitoring and Evaluation team at Te Puni Kōkiri have a short-term opportunity for an experienced Principal Analyst to lead the operational output of the unit.
You will lead the Monitoring and Reporting function in relation to Māori outcomes across the system, this is one of the five primary deliverables that are part of the Ministry's strategic intentions
**Mōu | About You**
We're looking for someone who has strong strategic policy experience. You will have experience writing for a Minister/s and Select Committee and be able to translate complex technical information into simple and easy to understand language for a range of audiences. You will also have good understanding of the Data & Insights through the lens of Te Ao Māori.
You will also have the ability to identify the solutions that work in complex scenarios. You will lead the relationships with delivery agencies to ensure Te Puni Kokiri is positioned to provide implementable policy solutions and advocate for whānau centred solutions that achieve better outcomes for Māori.
You'll be a well experienced Principal or a strong Senior, however if you're looking for a development opportunity then this role is not for you because this is due to the short nature - we're looking for someone who can hit the ground running, quickly.
The team is responsible for the monitoring work programme at Te Puni Kōkiri in its legislated role to monitor and liaise with public service agencies to ensure the adequacy of services provided to and for Māori. Through their work, they ensure Te Puni Kōkiri is positioned to influence system change to improve outcomes for Māori.
The likely appointment range is $123,317 (90%) - $137,018 (100%), depending on skills and experience, however we have some flexibility with this, given the short nature of the role - please contact us to discuss if you'd prefer, before applying.
Our preference is someone full-time for this period, however we would consider a part-time working arrangement.
This is a unique opportunity to work with Māori data to influence policy decision making across the public sector to achieve better outcomes for Māori.
**Tāu e whai ai | What you will get in return**
Te Puni Kōkiri is a diverse and rewarding working environment full of passionate kaimahi focused on creating solutions that will help our communities. We are guided by our values of te wero, manaakitanga, he toa takitini and ture tangata.
We offer flexible working options as well as training and development opportunities, including in te reo Māori.
**Te Puni Kokiri | Ministry for Māori Development**
Te Puni Kōkiri is committed to our vision of 'Whānau Taurikura' - 'Thriving Whānau'. We consider that when whānau are thriving, so do their communities, hapū, iwi and all of Aotearoa. This underpins everything we do.
Our people are at the heart of achieving this vision and it is our people who contribute to supporting Māori collective success. They do this by creating and maintaining relationships with iwi, hapū and whānau Māori and government at both a local and national level. It is this that enables Māori participation and success as Māori, and it is our people who will create a future where all whānau can thrive.
