Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads Aotearoa - New Zealand's housing and urban development work programme.

Mō te tūnga | About the Role
If you want to be an active player in the future of NZ housing, this high energy team is for you This role sits in Te Kāhui, Māori Housing group, which leads HUD's focus to improve Māori housing and urban development outcomes for, with and by Māori.
Established to deliver a distinct focus through a Kaupapa Māori lens, the housing programme seeks to disrupt the historical delivery by responding to the needs, reviewing and resetting the system for whānau hapu and iwi. The focus of this business unit is working with tangata whenua and supporting other business units throughout Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga. Building the system with Iwi, gives expression to our core values to be ‘treaty anchored' and intends to build enduring relationships with whānau, hapū, Iwi and Māori housing providers that is culturally authentic. Giving expression to work through a distinctly Māori lens means that we embrace what is at the heart of the relationships and engagement - Whakawhanaungatanga, Oritetanga, Kawanatanga and Rangatiratanga in a positive and an endearing manner to support Māori to achieve their housing aspirations.
As Principal Advisor to DCE, Tumuaki - Te Kāhui you will have a leadership role within a management focus and provide thought leadership and strategic and operational advice and direction to support the ‘group' delivery.
You will work across the system to translate organisational priorities into activity for delivery partnering with HUD's stakeholders to drive outcomes for Te Kahui - Māori housing, building and managing constructive working relationships across a variety of functions and locations with work colleagues and external stakeholders to enhance understanding and cooperation needed to achieve desired results. You will ensure the DCE is well briefed across emerging issues, risks and opportunities, you will escalate these and offer advice around options where appropriate.

Ō wheako, ō pukenga | About you
Is it important to you to really make a change the lives of whanau across the country? You will be adaptable, flexible and resilient, and you will bring ‘our values' to life as we work together to deliver change.
To thrive in our busy, challenging and changing environment, you will be committed to the MAIHI kaupapa principles and to strengthening the Māori-Crown relationship through Te Tiriti o Waitangi. You will bring a high level of competency to Māori values, practice and perspective to your work, and commitment to growing your knowledge of te ao Māori, te reo me ōna tikanga, while supporting others to do the same.

It carries with it a strong connection to our purpose: he kāinga ora, he hapori ora - thriving communities where everyone has a place to call home. The importance of ensuring the wellbeing of people within the home, and our connection with the land - acknowledges the generations of people who have always called this place ‘home' - and affirms our commitment to delivering for future generations of New Zealanders.
