**The Role**
Join the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in a pivotal leadership role as **Tumuaki Māori**. This **2-year contract** offers the opportunity to champion Māori health, provide operational leadership, and help guide the College in fulfilling its constitutional obligations to tāngata whenua, in line with our commitment to the Indigenous Object within our constitution.
As Tumuaki Māori, you'll work in partnership with the Head of Indigenous Affairs Australia to shape and deliver initiatives that grow competency and improve health outcomes for Māori communities. You’ll be at the forefront of advancing the Indigenous Strategic Framework (ISF) and embedding Māori perspectives throughout the College’s work.
**Key Responsibilities Include**:
- Driving the development of an Indigenous curriculum that promotes cultural safety and integrates Māori knowledge across training programs.
- Support the organisation in growing cultural safety and competency.
- Supporting initiatives that elevate Pasifika voices and increase representation within the RACP, especially among Registrars and Fellows.
- Leading the Māori Health Committee Workplan and ensuring culturally safe engagement across College governance.
- Mentoring and developing a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence and growth.
**Desired Skills and Experience**:
To succeed in this role, you will bring a combination of strong cultural grounding, strategic insight, and leadership capability. You will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. health services management, public policy) or equivalent education, training, and experience
- A strong grounding in Te Ao Māori and a deep understanding of Māori health issues
- Demonstrated experience working alongside and advocating for Māori communities, ensuring their voices and perspectives are central to decision-making
- Highly developed analytical, political judgement, and strategic thinking skills
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders
- Experience in Māori Health frameworks and strategy development
- A track record of successful project delivery within health or Māori health environments
- Strong team leadership skills, with the ability to inspire direction and purpose and deliver results
- Experience in advising senior leaders and committees with culturally informed and strategic insights
- Budgeting and performance reporting experience
- A firm commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and cultural safety within the organisation
