Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
With increasing health demand and constrained capacity, and in line with the Health Reform, we are transforming our health system to achieve more equitable health outcomes for our populations.
The Front of Whare project seeks to address the current challenges with emergency care at Ngā Puna Waiora; Wellington Regional Hospital. The ultimate goal of this Project is to improve health outcomes for those people we are here to serve, by providing timely and safe access to ED and interdependent services, with a workforce that is also able to support that goal.
The Project is grounded in equity, captured in the foundational statement agreed by the Front of Whare Steering Group in 2021:
- We are committed to addressing inequities in our provision of acute health care services.
- These foundations give life to this commitment as the underpinnings of a future model of care we aspire to deliver to our communities.
- These foundations will guide future investment, service and facility design, and recruitment planning for future acute care services at Wellington Regional Hospital. This will provide a relocated and expanded Te Pae Tiaki Wellington Emergency Department (ED), and an expanded acute service offering in the Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU), Surgical Assessment and Planning Unit (SAPU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and adult inpatient beds, at Wellington Regional Hospital (WRH). The Project will be delivered over several stages across four years, with completion expected in April 2027.
