**About the role**

The purpose of the Senior Traffic Engineer is to improve the productivity, efficiency, reliability and safety of the multi-modal transport network through pro-active optimisation and improving real-time operations. This role will help shape and influence the transport network strategies and development by providing key operational insights. This role will collaborate with other teams, stakeholders, and partners to provide solutions to mitigate the impacts of planned/un-planned events and capital construction projects on customer journeys; and provide technical training and development to the Traffic Engineers and Transport Network Operators.
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Providing leadership, guidance and mentoring to a team of skilled Traffic Engineers and Transport Network Operators;
- Solving problems to address the travel demands and multi-modal customer needs;
- Proactively identifying, prioritising and implementing of road safety projects or programmes
- Working closely with internal departments, Auckland Council, local boards, consultants and key stakeholders to build relationships that achieve the best outcomes for projects;
- Provide technical input into a wide range of transformational road safety (including walking and cycling), public transport and urban growth infrastructure projects undertaken by Auckland Transport;
**What we are looking for**

This role will suit someone who enjoys problem-solving, has a keen eye for detail, effective communication skills and the ability to negotiate with various stakeholders. To be considered for this role you will preferably have:

- Engineering Degree in Civil or some other discipline is mandatory, accreditation with IPENZ and a Masters Degree in Engineering is highly desirable
- A current and valid NZ Driver's Licence (or equivalent) is required.
- Minimum of 7 years relevant post graduate experience in traffic engineering and transport network management
- Relevant experience in aspects of traffic engineering including analysis, investigation, planning and delivery;
- An understanding of the legislative environment regarding transport operations
