Are you passionate about creating smarter, safer, and more efficient transport systems? Auckland Transport Operation Centre (ATOC) is seeking a skilled Traffic Engineer to play a pivotal role in optimising traffic operations across the region. This role sits at the heart of keeping Auckland moving—balancing peak productivity with safety for all road users.
As a Traffic Engineer, you'll be instrumental in shaping how our city flows by:
- Reviewing and refining signal designs to meet high operational standards
- Minimising disruption through effective traffic management planning
- Programming and maintaining the software that controls traffic signals
- Monitoring daily signal performance to ensure smooth operations
- Reporting on signal effectiveness and identifying opportunities for improvement
Success in this role means fewer public complaints, reduced manual interventions with traffic signals, and consistently reliable travel times on key arterial routes for our customers.
**Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?**
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Science, or Software Engineering
- A full, current driver's licence
- Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) certification
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in traffic or transportation engineering
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Familiarity with SCATS or similar traffic signal control systems
- Understanding of the legislative environment related to traffic operations
- Experience in project management or temporary traffic management
