Crown Estate Specialist

At the New Zealand Government, we value diverse perspectives and skills to shape our land regulations for public benefit and sustainability. We are looking for a talented Senior Advisor to drive impactful Crown land regulations and champion property rights. This role requires strong critical analysis and sound judgment to lead the development of regulatory interventions for how the Crown buys, manages, and sells land.
The successful candidate will help shape the future of the Public Works Act 1981, developing standards, guidance, operational policy, and intervention thinking. A key focus is to enable land to be used for public benefit while protecting private property rights of landowners. You will assess and provide advice on Crown Estate risk, engage with various stakeholders, and contribute to other legislation affecting Crown-owned land.
This role involves reviewing and providing advice on our legislation, drafting guidance or education material, and leading engagement with Crown agencies or their accredited suppliers dealing with land issues. You will mentor junior colleagues, contribute to overall improvements of our system and regulatory regime, and have experience with government land-related laws and regulations.
We offer an exciting opportunity to work on transformative legislative changes, collaborate with key stakeholders, and make a difference in the responsible stewardship and sustainable use of the Crown Estate. Our mahi helps New Zealanders have confidence that the development of our land, communities, and country is being planned from an informed and expert position.
