About the Role
This one-year Fellowship – Gastroenterology position is a structured training opportunity for medical specialists.
We are looking to pilot a Gastroenterology Fellowship programme at our institution, focusing on General Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
The Fellow will work closely with the Clinical Director, Consultant Physicians, Registrar, Clinical Nurse specialists, and Nurse Practitioner to deliver an efficient and high-quality service.
Fellows should be proficient in most of the skills and procedures outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors.
A typical work week includes 1:6 Gastroenterology on-call under supervision, research, in- and outpatient specialist services, rural clinics, and endoscopy.
Supervision will be provided by experienced SMOs, including a consultant available for advice at all times when on call.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to hone specialist skills before becoming fully vocationally registered.
It is intended to aid the transition from registrar working under supervision to specialist providing supervision to junior staff.

Our institution is a tertiary level hospital with a full range of elective and acute surgical specialties, offering a varied and challenging array of aspects in Gastroenterology.
We have subspecialty clinics in hepatology and IBD, allowing for research into these disciplines.
We work in close collaboration with the University of Otago.
About You
You will need to be in your last 6 months of Gastroenterology advanced training.
