Mō Te Tari Pūreke | About the Firearms Safety Authority
He wāhanga a Te Tari Pūreke nō Ngā Pirihimana o Aotearoa. Ko ā mātou kaupapa, he whakahaere tika i te mau me te whakamahinga o te pū, kia noho haumaru ai ngā hapori. Ko mātau nei, te mūrau o ngā rāngai waeture.
Te Tari Pūreke - Firearms Safety Authority is a branded business unit of the New Zealand Police with the purpose of enabling Aotearoa New Zealand to be a world leader in arms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.
Established to lead, operate, and develop investment in modernisation of the firearms system, Te Tari Pūreke work to ensure a safer, more efficient, and effective risk-based licensing system, with the desire to improve public confidence in the firearms licensing system.
This is enabled through opportunities in harm prevention via transparent, high quality, consistent, legislatively correct, and effective regulatory activities.
This is delivered via world leading administration, education, and promotion of compliance within the provisions of the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.

Te Tira Takitahi is the kaupapa Māori triage hub for Te Tari Pūreke and currently nestled within the Partnerships Directorate to support our branded business unit on delivering against our regulatory strategy, and our commitment to being a Tiriti champion and an employer of choice.

The purpose of the Senior Partnerships Advisor - Iwi, is to determine and manage needs and concerns from, for, and with the Māori firearms user perspective via partnering with Māori communities, hapū and key Māori groups, to build relationships at a needs-based level
The role of the Senior Partnerships Advisor
- Iwi, is to develop and deliver the pathways programmes (cultural safety, cultural intelligence, and cultural capability) and progress our Iwi Management Plans.

- Lead tikanga in our internal and external work
- Value relationships and ā-kanohi as mana-enhancing engagement practices
- Nurture cultural confidence within Te Tari Pūreke
- Front reo rangatira to engage our relationships, and with our partners
- Adopt inclusive thinking and behaviours with a ‘for, by, and with Māori’ mindset to realise Te Tiriti compliance
- Consult with our partners early to ensure their voices are truly heard
Cultural competence is key in the role, and you will need a demonstratable understanding of Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori, a strong ability to operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting and proven understanding of and commitment to, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

- Develop and deliver the pathways programmes (cultural safety, cultural intelligence, and cultural capability)
- Relationship lead, overseeing of engagement and partnerships with Hapū, Māori, and the Māori firearms communities
- Deliver on-time, at-need service requests and queries
- Adopt a continuous improvement approach to all activities and insight-sharing
- Utilise kaupapa Māori methodology to articulate commentary on operational policy, legislation implementation, and administration best practice.
