The New Zealand Police Policy and Partnership Group provides advice on a remarkable and fascinating range of policy issues from vulnerable children, family harm, and health including drug policy, through to firearms, transport, national security, emergency management, and criminal justice reform. The diversity of our business makes for interesting and challenging policy opportunities across the wide variety of sectors we work with.

**Key accountabilities**:

- Analyse policy issues and develop advice
- Prepare briefings, Cabinet papers, and correspondence
- Develop, or contribute to, project management plans and implements those plans
- Manage relationships with operational staff and represent their views in the development of policy.

Mō te tima - About our teams
Criminal Justice Policy
The Criminal Justice Policy Team works with Police groups and other agencies across the criminal justice sector to support legislative changes and policy relating to the administration of justice, the management of offenders, and improvements to the criminal justice system.

The Prevention and Social Policy
The Prevention and Social Policy Team works with Police operations groups, government and non-government agencies across the justice and social sectors on legislative changes and policy relating to social policy issues, in particular strengthening community resilience, family violence and sexual violence, youth and child offending, improving outcomes for Māori, and improving responses for victims of crime.

National Security and International Policy
The National Security and International Team focuses on issues that affect New Zealand and the wider global community such as organised crime, financial crime, cybercrime, and security. It also focuses on border and cross-border issues such as international information sharing, people smuggling and trafficking, counter terrorism, and national security.

Transport and Health Policy
The Transport and Health Policy Team brings together policy and strategic advice on road safety and wider transport issues, together with advice on mental health, alcohol, and other drugs policy. The team works closely with the Ministry of Transport, The New Zealand Transport Agency and the Ministry of Health.

Firearms Policy
The Firearms Policy Team has responsibility for modernising and maintaining the firearms laws, promoting the safe possession and use of firearms and other weapons.

- comfortable leading policy work and representing Police interests on complex matters in collaboration with other agencies
- confident communicating with a wide range of people including other Police staff, stakeholders and senior leaders
