Upper Hutt City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Policy Advisor to join our team.
As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will be a key member of the Strategy, Policy & Planning Team which sits within the wider Engagement, Strategy and Planning Group.
You'll keep your finger on the pulse with what is happening in across the city, by leading Council's policy programmes to review, create and support policy, bylaws and strategies for the city.
As a Senior Policy Advisor you'll be required to gather and critically assess information from the public and the organisation to prepare it for reporting to elected members.
This is a diverse role, needing initiative and motivation so you should:
Have a good understanding of Local Government policy and bylaw planning processes, functions and legislation
Have exceptional relationship management and communication skills, both written and oral, including being comfortable presenting in council and community environments.
Be able to engage with a diverse community and internal teams to gather insights and translate these into effective policies
Have strong business writing skills to deliver effective project plans, proposals and translate complex problems into simple opportunities solutions and results
Be a natural collaborator, open to different points of view, with a willingness to overcome difficult challenges within teams and the wider organisation
Be experienced in or familiar with local government consultation and engagement processes
Have proven background experience in policy and relevant tertiary qualification(s)
