There are two key parts to our business which reflect New Zealand's legislative requirements for the power system. As the Grid Owner, we own and operate the National Grid. As the System Operator (SO), we are responsible for managing the real-time power system and operating the wholesale electricity market under the System Operator Performance Agreement (SOSPA). We are regulated by the Electricity Authority (EA) in accordance with the Electricity Industry Participation Code (the Code).

**About the Team**

Transpower's Market and Business team in Wellington supports the operation of the electricity market, drives the implementation of market and business initiatives, and investigates how future market developments may impact System Operations.

Within Market and Business, the System Operator Business Services team works across the system operator function to proactively manage the SOSPA contract which underpins our service, including the commercial relationship with the Electricity Authority. The team also provides divisional Risk and Assurance, contract administration, and stakeholder engagement support.

**About the Opportunity - a newly created role**

You'll lead a team of four (advisors and administrators) that support across the Operations division and play a key relationship management role (commercial and contract) working with The Electricity Authority commercial management team, as the manager of the SOSPA contract.

You'll also lead cross-business support functions to ensure the System Operator service understands and meets stakeholder needs in a coordinated and responsive manner. You will:

- Have oversight of the operational aspects of the commercial relationship with the Electricity Authority regarding all aspects of our service and performance
- Develop and monitor the strategic plan and key performance indicators to deliver the System Operator service aligned with the Electricity Authority and Transpower's drivers
- Ensure coordinated delivery of all service deliverables
- Be responsible for System Operator website content, including documentation and information for market participants and wider stakeholder groups
- Ensure that the ancillary services team is supporting in the administration of commercial relationships and contract management processes

This is a great opportunity for a commercially astute, collaborative, and emotionally intelligent individual to take on a leadership role in a super stimulating environment. For the right skill set, we are open to considering 4 days, or 32 hours a week

**What will you bring?**

You'll have outstanding critical thinking and well-developed negotiation and influencing skills underpinned by clear and concise verbal and written communication. Previous roles underpinned by a degree and/or post graduate qualification will have honed your experience in:

- Board reporting, high value contract management, and managing programmes of work of various size and complexity with high levels of executive engagement
- Relationship Management at all levels including senior executives, management and regulators, government bodies, etc,
- Sound experience in working with technical experts to articulate business risk and outcomes
- An ability to effectively articulate the strategic direction of an organisation and drive this through more granular planning processes
- Demonstrated experience in process ownership and continuous improvement

You'll be someone known for championing perspectives of customers and stakeholders to an internal audience and have demonstrated system and process thinking to articulate opportunities and complex multifaceted scenarios.

While not essential, a general understanding of the nature and design of the electricity industry's core business processes and/or experience analysing legal and financial documentation would be an advantage.
