Auckland Council’s Local Board Services has an opportunity for a Lead Engagement Advisor to join the team. This role will report directly to the Local Area Manager.

Local boards make local decisions on behalf of their communities, they provide leadership and engage with the public on a broad range of community and regional issues. This is a critical role for decision-making, therefore establishing meaningful connections between our elected members, council staff and our communities is at the heart of this role.

This role will provide leadership in areas of engagement strategies and development initiatives. Your goal is to improve access to diverse communities and increase the communities’ voice.

You could expect to:

- Lead the ongoing improvement of local community engagement for projects, elections, annual budgets, local board plans and Māori engagement
- Collaborate with other departments such as Citizen Engagement, Ngā Mātārae, and Parks and Community Facilities
- Provide direction to Local Engagement Advisors.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

You will be politically savvy with the acumen to work amongst elected members, other local boards and communities.

We honour te Tiriti o Waitangi, accord value to te ao Māori (the Māori world), support kaitiakitanga and are responsive to the needs of Māori. Lead Engagement Advisors participate in initiatives to immerse te ao Māori into the way we do things. Working with Ngā Mātārae, you will assist with Maori engagement plans and continuously build relationships with mana whenua.

We will be looking for specific experience:

- Working collaboratively across a large and complex organisation, Māori communities and diverse organisations
- Delivering strategic & political advice at a senior level
- Tertiary qualification such as public policy, public management, humanities, finance, or law
