The role of Head of Building Consenting requires a visionary and experienced leader to support the growth of our thriving communities.

**About the role**:
In this role you will provide direction to the unit on building consenting services and the vision of how those services will continuously improve. To deliver the end-to-end commercial and residential building services functions you will need to:

- Provide direction, empower, motivate and develop others in order to achieve team, business group and organisational goals securing a positive outcome for the people of Christchurch
- Own and demonstrate the vision and values of the Council and provide clear and inspiring leadership to all staff.
- Demonstrate a commitment to and respect for Te Tiriti o Waitangi and incorporate into your and your team's daily work the principles of being a good Treaty partner.
- Create and support a culture of continuous improvement and performance excellence
- Embrace and role model Council's new collaborative, community-centric and responsive ways of working, to ensure they become embedded within your unit.

**About you**:
Ultimately it will be your ability to lead from the front, inspire with your innovation, and above all your commitment to your team, the Council, and the outputs it collectively achieves that will be the key to your success. Combined with this you will have:

- At least 15 years industry experience with 10 years of those in a leadership role within a similar organisation.
- Working knowledge of Building Act and Local Government Legislation.
- Previous experience of Building Consent Authority responsibility.
- Previous experience in leading a Local Government or Central Government Building Control function.
- Demonstrated ability in successful management of complex cross-sector, multi-stakeholder relationships to jointly develop innovative strategies and solutions.
