The Building Consenting Unit plays a pivotal role in the Christchurch community through its range of activities and responsibilities; most notably by ensuring compliance with the New Zealand Building Act and Building Code. We support our customers to make sure the vision for their future building project comes to life, from conception right through to completion.

We see our role as working alongside our customers, which means that we have to be future focused and understand that as our customer's vision and goals change, we need to change with them. As a result, we have an opportunity for a people and performance driven leader to join us, as ultimately we know that it's our people who will ensure that we continue to go from strength to strength.

This critical role provides leadership and oversight of the consenting, compliance and certification of commercial construction across the city. You will be responsible for leading the end-to-end process, guiding changes to ensure the effective and collaborative delivery of all services in the commercial sector.

You will lead an extraordinary bunch of leaders. They are industry professionals in their own right, and as such you will have the relevant industry experience and legislative knowledge to allow you to lead from the front, inspire with your vision and drive performance. You will work alongside our Residential Department Manager and together take a collaborative and supportive approach; you will have a fair and realistic approach to regulatory and building compliance, and a desire to grow and develop your leadership skills.

This role offers a unique span of control in terms of the volume and variation of work. You will be confident in engaging and instilling trust with a range of stakeholders at all levels, and comfortable dealing with complaint escalations. We want you to share your ideas for continuous improvement and be passionate about doing things for the greater cause.
