We are seeking a Principal Adviser who is eager to develop their leadership capability and experience, while also supporting the performance of their team and the Ministry.This is a permanent position based in Wellington.
This position will see you working with Ministers, public sector leaders and senior stakeholders. About the Programme Assurance and Commercial Team
With billions of dollars being invested by the Government in the transport network each year, our Programme Assurance and Commercial team is playing an essential role in ensuring investments are designed, procured and delivered in a way that maximise transport outcomes for kiwis.
The team has both a current and future focus. You will provide high quality advice to Ministers that offers strategic insights on the programme and assurance activities across major projects and programmes.
From the outset, you'll assume responsibility for the Ministry's continued oversight and assurance of some of the major transport investment programmes, including:

- the Government's $8.7b investment in transport through the NZ Upgrade Programme, designed to get our cities moving, save lives and boost productivity
- the City Rail Link investment programme, delivering a 3.45km twin-tunnel underground rail link below Auckland, and New Zealand's biggest infrastructure project to date

You will have responsibility for developing and implementing the programme assurance methodologies across transport Crown investment programmes, currently including the New Zealand Upgrade Programme, Joint Venture Airports, the MetService contract and investments in the rail network.
Being a Principal Adviser
As the Principal Adviser, you will work closely with the Manager - Programme Assurance and Commercial to enable the team to deliver critical work programmes across the transport system, using your skills to lead, inspire, and develop the overall capability of the team.
You'll lead projects that have a real impact on the lives of New Zealanders, and you will have the opportunity to speak to your work at Ministers' meetings and Select Committees. You will get the opportunity to provide policy leadership, coach others, undertake complex analysis and develop innovative and practical policy solutions.
With an eye to the future, you'll have plenty of scope to design and embed new approaches shaping how the Ministry develops and provides commercial advice, investment monitoring and assurance of future Crown transport investments.

**What you will bring**:

- Strong skills in developing high quality and concise advice for Ministers and stakeholders
- Experience leading the design and implementation of accountability and control frameworks
- Strong track record working in a commercial environment, with a familiarity in working with Government.
- Strong understanding and ability to influence decision making across the investment lifecycle.
- Excellent collaborative engagement and communication style which allows you to be influential with key stakeholders.
