**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

The Tāmaki Makaurau Design Ope, (TMDO) previously Urban Design Unit, is part of the Chief Planning Office, where future policy and strategic direction decisions are made to shape how our city grows for the future, including responding to national legislation such as the National Policy Statement on Urban Development and Medium Density Residential Standards. The TMDO provides design leadership, high-quality advice, and considerable expertise in the technical fields of urban, Māori, and universal design; landscape architecture; and planning. We follow collaborative and innovative practices, striving to ensure that best possible design outcomes are achieved, every time.

This is an exciting career opportunity for an experienced urban designer or architect who has a particular strength and passion for achieving quality outcomes for the City. As a Principal Urban Designer, you will:

- Contribute to urban design policy and plan changes to the Auckland Unitary Plan, master plans and place-based projects as well as development of best practice design guidance
- Provide mentoring and support to junior members of the team

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified urban designer/architect with a senior level of experience (minimum 7 years). We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:

- Proven skills in delivering a range of urban design projects, including medium and high density residential developments, mixed use and commercial development
- In-depth understanding of legislation relating to urban design, particularly in the Tāmaki Makaurau context
- Good understanding of the resource consent process
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to lead and mentor junior team members
