**Responsibilities**:

- Source and select a wide range of grocery products to meet customer demand and sales targets.
- Ensure departmental financial performance is tightly controlled and within budget. Proactively monitor coop, promotional monies and rebates and address shortfalls in a timely manner.
- Ensure the Store Manager is informed of performance and operational issues within the category through regular reporting on performance against KPIs, identifying problems within the performance and proactively identifying solutions to sustainably improve results.
- Manage the administration within the category pricing, range changes, promotions, discontinuations, NPD.
- Develop and monitor key supplier joint business plans.
- Delegate work, guide and develop your direct reports.
- Review promotion effectiveness, analyse, negotiate, and inform any changes are required to the remaining planned promotions.
- Create, implement and manage category plans.
- Deliver best in class category strategies on an annual basis.
- Analyse market trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and make informed purchasing decisions.
- Negotiate with suppliers to secure the best prices, terms, and promotional opportunities.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment of stock to avoid out-of-stock situations.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop effective promotions and merchandising strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier agreements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to foster long-term partnerships and secure favorable terms.

**What skills and experience you need**:

- Experience in B2B, FMCG and/or NZ Grocery Retail
- Retail account management experience
- A solid understanding of market trends and influences, both within New Zealand and globally with a drive to continuously stay ahead of the game
- You will be both Entrepreneurial and Commercial
- You’ll have very strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- You will have excellent planning and communication skills - both written and verbal, with a great ability to collaborate with others, clearly articulate ideas/concepts and effectively present to others
- You will have a strong track record in negotiating sales outcomes
- You will have a collaborative working style yet be able to stand on your own two feet
- You will be a doer, capable of speedily delivering high volumes of quality work, yet also be flexible and able respond to incoming requests
- You will be curious, and keen to learn more, and constantly looking at what’s possible while also being comfortable in an ambiguous transformational environment.
- Proven experience as a buyer in the supermarket industry, with a strong understanding of procurement processes and supplier management.
- Demonstrate leadership and ability to influence and motivate a diverse work force to achieve agreed KPI’s.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence key stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and market trends to make strategic decisions.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of the New Zealand grocery market and consumer preferences is preferred.
