**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
The Strategic Finance Lead is a key leadership position within the Service Excellence team, reporting to the Head of Service Excellence and with dotted-line leadership of two Senior Management Accountant positions.

The Strategic Finance Lead is a technical expert and leads and promotes the Management Accounting (MA) team within the Corporate Services branch. The role provides information, metrics and insight, together with education and understanding, to facilitate improved processes within the CSFE group.

The role is a key relationship and coordination point between the FBPs, the Finance, Performance & Assurance branch and the business. The role holds key relationships with FBPs, branch Senior Leadership Teams, the CSFE group, staff in other government agencies, external Auditors, and other external stakeholders

Working alongside the Head of Service Excellence, the role will develop the strategic positioning of the Management Accounting function and lead continuous improvement initiatives to support more effective and efficient delivery of key finance processes. This position has a key role in supporting the wider CSFE group’s achievement of its strategic priorities.

**Skills and Experience Required**

To be successful in this position you will be:

- A proven track record of experience and achievement as a strategic leader.
- A proven track record in using system thinking, design thinking or other similar method in delivering services.
- A proven track record in leading large work programmes, taking into account both strategic and operational needs.
- A strategic outlook with the intellectual capability to analyse large, complex financial concepts and processes and readily grasp and synthesise the ideas, analysis and advice produced by others.
- Sound judgement, integrity and discretion, particularly around strategic risk management.
- Excellent communication and coaching skills to embed a culture of excellence in the team.
- Credible, respected relationships with diverse stakeholders, including senior managers, team members, staff in partner agencies and key external stakeholders and opinion leaders.
- Self-motivation and persistence in challenging frameworks and pushing hard issues, but with good judgement in identifying when to pull back on issues.
- Strategic, enthusiastic, opportunistic, collaborative and diplomatic.
- Working knowledge of public sector processes is desirable.
