The Crown Response Unit coordinates the Government's response to the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry.

Our current work programme is focused on responding to the Royal Commission's interim report that recommended the development of a new independent redress system for survivors.

The Commission also recommended, and the Government agreed to four immediate pieces of work ahead of the establishment of the new independent redress system. These are:

- Establishing a service for survivors to share their experiences of abuse in care
- Improving survivor's access to their care records
- Progressing rapid payments for historical abuse claimants
- Work on a public apology to survivors.

About the role | Mō te tūranga

Reporting to the Corporate Services and Governance Manager, the Finance Lead is responsible for providing trusted, insightful and comprehensive financial advice and analysis. This includes the provision of analysis and advice to inform business decisions, while also ensuring effective processes are in place to enable budget managers to meet their financial accountabilities.

A key component of this role will be to develop financial strategies and advise leaders within the CRU on key financial decisions. This role will work closely with the Head of Corporate Services and Programme Management and other workstream leads delivering the CRU work programme.

Note, this role does not have any direct reports.

What you can bring | Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu
- A tertiary qualification (at least equivalent to Bachelors) in finance or a relevant discipline and preferably Chartered Accountant status with CA ANZ or a similar professional body.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
- Demonstratable competence and experience in providing financial insight, advice and challenge in a medium to large sized organisation.
- Experience working with medium to large sized finance systems, and reporting, budgeting and forecasting models.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective internal relationships in order to drive collaboration effectively across the CRU team and OT Management Accounting team.
- Proven quantitative and qualitative analytical and evaluative skills, incorporating problem solving, decision-making and creative thinking.
- Strong Excel and analytical skills, with an ability to draw key business insights.
- Good working knowledge of relevant standards, principles, policies, systems and processes, procedures, guidelines, practice and regulations including Public Finance Act -1989, Financial Reporting Act-1993, NZ and international accounting and reporting standards (including audit and risk management), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Sound knowledge of public sector and/or in large service/community organisations.
