Application Services works under guidance of Strategy and Architecture to deliver products in accordance with enterprise standards. The IT systems built and operated by the Application Services team are a key part of the on-going planning, maintenance, management, and real-time operations of the national electricity grid infrastructure and the electricity market.
The team is collaborative, and results focused with a varied and full programme of work, with many interesting and key projects.
About the opportunity
By seamlessly managing the operations of systems through automation, you'll contribute to improving the operational design aspects leading to reliable and resilient systems. A key focus for this role will be in-depth problem solving and break fix work, and you'll be the escalation point for the team by providing expertise in the hardware and software stack.
Operating within a DevOps environment, you'll get to work across Windows and Linux environments, Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases, along with technologies such as Containerisation platforms, Enterprise Service Bus/ API management/ integration, Elasticsearch, and Atlassian tools.
About you
As an experienced Service or Site Reliability Engineer, you're passionate about engaging regularly with both your team and the business to ensure strong cohesion and collaboration.
You have an Infrastructure and software-development background and are comfortable with coding, using the appropriate tools for the job, and are always thinking about the future (at scale) when designing solutions.
**What we're looking for**:

- 3 - 5 years of experience in software development
- 3 - 5 years of experience in system administration / operations support
- Ability to navigate complex environments while operating successfully at volume and scale
- A continuous improvement mindset to ensure system reliability / resilience and the delivery of stable releases
- Effective engagement with business representatives when managing specific incidents or problems
- Demonstrable experience with underlying technologies, including:

- Virtual server infrastructure
- Citrix infrastructure
- Network infrastructure
- Firewall and security infrastructure
- Authentication and user access controls
- Experience developing multiple systems at enterprise scale using different languages (Java,.NET, etc.)

A bachelor's degree in Programming / Systems or Computer Science or other related field is desirable but not essential.
