Over the past 5 years public health has been front and centre through the response and management of disease outbreaks amongst numerous other public health related incidents. But public health is much more than just disease outbreaks as we seek to undertand and act on the determinants of health in order to protect and improve the health of our many communities.

Public health intelligence is front and centre of these efforts in delivering innovative products and solutions to enable public health action on everything from climate change to urban design, and health equity.

This role provides provides expertise to a multidisciplinary intelligence and analytics team to ensure not only high quality analytical approaches to a problem, but that the problem statements themselves are well designed. In the Intelligence and Surveillance Specialist role, you will be responsible for:

- Interpreting and reframing organisational problem statements and issues to enable meaningful analytics based solutions
- Identifying how and where data analytics can be used to improve decision making in the context of the services’ programmes, workflows, and purpose
- Developing and maintaining data pipeline systems for time critical analytics
- Supporting the development and implementation of the surveillance strategic plan
- Supporting the planning, development and implementation of public health surveillance outputs
- Working closely with stakeholders throughout the service to identify opportunities to leverage data to drive business and health outcome improvements
- Supporting ARPHS’ vision and role model Te Toka Tumai values in all interactions

**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**
- Appropriate tertiary qualification with associated computational analytics
- Background knowledge of biostatistics, epidemiology, demography, health geography, or other applied sciences
- Basic ability to conduct data exploration, analysis and visualisation
- Ability to handle data in an ethnical, secure, and responsible manner
- Experience in the delivery of innovative analytics and solutions
- Excellent knowledge of NZ Public Health Sector
- 5+ years experience in data science or health analytics
- Excellent communication skills and understanding of communication strategies
