Te Papa stands proud as an iconic national museum housing the treasures of the nation and is a vibrant destination for both national and international visitors. It is also a meeting place, a place for lifelong learning, and a place that inspires a sense of wonder and connection.
The People, Safety and Culture tima (team) at Te Papa works in partnership with directorates to develop initiatives and resolve issues in relation to Te Papa's people, culture, and health, safety, and wellbeing practices. Our tima is made up of three groups: Organisational Development, People Advisory and Systems, and Health and Safety. Collectively, we deliver on people, safety and culture strategies supporting a leader-led philosophy and ensuring a people-centred approach.
Biculturalism is a founding philosophy and practice of Te Papa designed to explore the contribution of Maori language and culture to the life, culture and activities of the museum in small and large ways. Our vision is to be a Tiriti-based museum, where a collective commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi is fostered and Maori exercise tino rangatiratanga. Te Papa's three values Whanaungatanga (Teamwork), Manaakitanga (Respect) and Auahatanga (Creativity) are at the centre of how Te Papa works.
**About the position**:
This position sits within the People Advisory and Systems group within the People, Safety and Culture tima. Te Papa operates a centralised payroll operation for approximately 700 permanent, fixed term and casual employees (kaimahi), working a variety of roster patterns across two separate pay cycles.
We are looking for someone who will bring their excellent payroll administration or coordination skills, to support our Senior Payroll Officer in delivering effective, on time and accurate end to end payroll processing and solutions. You will provide review and assurance for the many payroll changes and requests that come in each fortnight, ensuring that they have been actioned in accordance with source documentation and relevant employment legislation.
In addition to our core payroll system, you will also work across our other People Systems, developing, extracting and analysing people information to provide data insights to both our internal teams and external stakeholders.
**Skills, knowledge and experience**
Our ideal appointee will bring a strong work ethic, positivity, discretion and a professional approach. You will be able to prioritise competing demands, cope well under pressure and work within strict timeframes, whilst demonstrating great attention to detail with high levels of accuracy. It goes without saying but you also need to understand the importance of privacy and maintain the utmost confidentiality in all your work.
Knowledge of Te Reo Maori, tikanga and te Tiriti o Waitangi (or a commitment to learning and integrating these into your mahi) is important at Te Papa.
**Remuneration and Benefits**
**This is a 20 hours per week (0.5 FTE) position,** with core hours and days expected to be worked for pay week processing, however we are open to flexible working arrangements in how the remaining hours are spread across the week.
**Application Information**
Applications close on Sunday 12 January 2025.
Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain the legal right to work in New Zealand. Pre-employment checks will be undertaken, including criminal conviction history and reference checking prior to Te Papa confirming an offer of employment.
For more information or a confidential discussion, please contact Yoeun Steenson on 029 772 0221.
