Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
Supporting the Commissioner, Biosecurity Intelligence & Systems, this role provides strategic leadership and is responsible for shaping key work programmes for the Directorate. This role also forms part of the Directorate Leadership team and provides advice on issues that impact the operations of the Biosecurity Intelligence & Systems Directorate.
This role is accountable for delivering on key strategic projects in collaboration with the Commissioner and group managers. This role requires an individual who will understand the scope and purpose of the biosecurity system and the role played by the Commissioner, Biosecurity Intelligence & Systems.
This role will support the Commissioner in the delivery of a significant operational programme, substantive change programmes and injecting thought leadership into the biosecurity system.

Mōu - About You
The Principal Adviser is a varied role, and you will need previous experience of the New Zealand government business environment, strategic priorities and regulatory frameworks. You will also bring a high level of experience in the development and implementation of organisational strategies and plans.

**We are looking for an individual that**:

- Has knowledge of the Biosecurity system and/or knowledge of the National Security Systems and emergency response preparedness and management
- Is recognised for their strong ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles.
- Understands the structure, functions and conventions of Government and their relationship to the work of MPI

You will be a part of Biosecurity Intelligence & Systems leadership team working very closely with the Commissioner and other senior managers within the directorate to contribute to the developments of strategic goals to achieve operational excellence.

Low level Security Clearance
- most preferably a New Zealand citizen, who has resided continuously in New Zealand for at least the last five (5) years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five (5) years: either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
