Procurement Coordinator

Christchurch, New Zealand Orion Full time

Procurement at Orion:
They are building on our journey of bringing robust process and structure, strong and fair commercial terms, and good contract management to our business. They feel proud of what they have achieved, so are now investing to further support the focus on innovation, value optimisation, and broader outcomes.

To keep moving forward, they have reviewed their procurement team and have changed the roles of two coordinators to allow more interaction and process change. They are also adding three procurement specialist roles, so it’s all going there

There is obviously a lot of “doing” in a coordinator’s role, but in this role, there’s also quite a bit of proactively working with people.

The coordinator role is broad reaching so here are some of the elements it will cover:

- heavy workload, processing tenders to our panel suppliers
- coming up with better ways of doing things and then doing things the better way
- supporting environmental and social outcomes into our procurement
- supporting effective mutual relationships with suppliers
- paperwork (while trying not to use actual paper)

Why procurement at Orion is a great place to be: Have a good look at the following five Orion principles because they are how they genuinely live and work.
- People can be curious, explore new possibilities and learn in pursuit of our vision
- People feel safe to be themselves
- People can take ownership, exercise good judgment and act
- People deliver what’s required to a high standard
- People support each other and work together as a team

We think these roles will be interesting to people with a range of experience who want to further develop their value. A benchmark test of skills and experience would be; that you could explain (at a high level) how the procurement process works. You have an awareness of the importance of environmental and social elements of a healthy supply chain and feel that you could understand a supply agreement (maybe with a little help).

Orion recognises that their people are critical to the success of their business and are committed to providing a caring work environment that enables professional and personal growth. In this role, you will have plenty of opportunity to learn and progress your career without having to sacrifice your work-life balance.

As the third largest electricity distribution network in New Zealand, Orion owns and operates the electricity distribution network that provides power to central Canterbury. Their network extends over 8,000 square kilometers across central Canterbury from the Waimakariri River in the north to the Rakaia River in the south and delivers electricity to more than 211,600 homes and businesses. They are here to power a cleaner, brighter future for the community and New Zealand, now and in the future. At Orion, you will be joining a best-in-class electricity network that enables energy choice and supports decarbonising the region.

Orion has a proud tradition of being a great place to work. The dedication, energy, and innovation of their people and their dynamic and challenging work environment have helped to build this tradition and position Orion as a sought-after Canterbury employer.
